What Happened When I Tried This Black Rice Toner for 30 Days

Last time here on the blog, I introduced a brand we’ve been loving called Haruharu Wonder. The company are a small, Korean, female-owned brand with a focus on fermented skincare. In today’s post, I’m reviewing one of their star products, the Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, after using it consistently for 30 days. The toner has become popular for its quality ingredients and hydrating, antioxidant formula. Let’s get straight into it!
This lightweight, watery toner is to nourish and hydrate the skin, while preparing skin for the absorption of products. It is both vegan and cruelty-free, and it uses Haruharu Wonder’s patented Ultra Deep Technology to deliver active ingredients deep within the skin.
Hydration should play a key role in any skincare routine, no matter what your skin type is, and an easy-to-use toner like this is a quick way to add a hydrating step. I personally love my hydrating toners, because my skin is so much plumper and healthier looking when I use them. This one can comfortably be used every day after cleansing by simply patting into your face with your hands. The packaging of the toner is a sleek gradient design and has a pin hole classic toner dispenser.
The ingredients within the formula are 95% naturally-derived and the two main ingredients are fermented black rice and hyaluronic acid. Here is the complete list:
Water, Betaine, Glycerin, Propanediol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Phyllostachys Pubescens Shoot Bark Extract, Aspergillus Ferment, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Cyclodextrin, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Beta-glucan, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Butylene Glycol, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Sodium Phytate, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Glucose, 1,2-Hexanediol, Alcohol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil
Fermented skincare is particularly popular within Korean skincare for several reasons. Firstly, the fermentation process breaks down molecules to a smaller size, so the goodness from the ingredients is more easily absorbed by the skin. In addition, the process also creates more nutrients from the ingredients, such as antioxidants and amino acids.
Fermented black rice contains an abundance of antioxidants, which help fight against free radical damage and slow down the ageing process. This ingredient is also good for skin conditioning. Hyaluronic acid within the formula is an excellent ingredient for hydrating the skin and beta-glucan is also great for hydration, skin softening, and antioxidant benefits. The ingredients list looked great to me before I even tried the product!
The texture of the toner is just slightly thicker than water and easily absorbs into the skin. It would be suitable for most skin types because of the light consistency, but of course check the ingredients list for any sensitivities you have. It’s a product that can be used both morning and night, making it easy to incorporate into a daily routine. Easy skincare is always a winner! There is no artificial scent within the toner, but it does have a pleasant, subtle herbal scent from the lavender oil, and personally I enjoy that.
The toner performs very nicely overall! I pat it into my skin every morning and night and my skin feels instantly hydrated and prepped for the rest of my routine. I notice subtle plumping, and I’m always happy to use products that boost the antioxidants in my routine. For me, toners are a key category for softening the texture of my skin and helping maintain a plump, glowing complexion- this toner works very well for that purpose. I can also layer all my skincare very easily over the top, which is important. After a month of use I can conclude- this toner is a keeper!
